Enrollment and Attendance FAQs

Any student in grades 7–12 who resides in Maine is eligible for full-time enrollment.

Any student residing in Maine in the appropriate grade will be eligible to attend MEVA unless the number of students exceeds the enrollment capacity of a program, class, or grade level, in which case MEVA shall enroll students through a random selection process. Unless authorized by a school administrative unit (SAU) with an enrollment of 500 or fewer students, MEVA will not enroll more than five percent of the SAU’s students per grade level in each of the first three years of MEVA’s operation. Unless authorized by a school administrative unit (SAU) with an enrollment of more than 500 students, MEVA will not enroll more than 10 percent of the SAU’s students per grade level in each of the first three years of operation. After students residing in Maine have been enrolled, MEVA will consider enrolling students from outside the State, as provided in 20-A MRSA §2404(2)(J). MEVA’s admission policies will prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, income level, disabling condition, proficiency in the English language, or academic or athletic ability.

Because MEVA provides all the lesson plans and materials needed for grades 7–12, many parents find it easy to enroll multiple children in the program.

Since Maine Virtual Academy is a public school program, there is no tuition.

Maine Virtual Academy works with families toward a positive attendance record to meet their required number of 180 instructional days.

The school calendar includes school “holidays” or vacation time. Whenever possible, family vacations should align with school vacation days. Parents are encouraged to contact their teacher if they plan a vacation that does not coordinate with the school calendar.
